The Gay Men's Chorus Pays Tribute to Laura Dern

Laura Dern got the recognition she deserves at the 2020 Independent Spirit Awards: in song.

At one point during the awards show on Saturday night, host Aubrey Plaza recognized how LGBTQ+ representation is a significant part of filmmaking. But, Plaza said, "While we do have some amazing queer films nominated tonight, we wanted to shine a spotlight on some of the gayest moments in other films that you may not have realized were gay."

The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles then took the stage, going down the list of scenes they deemed were a subtle nod to gay culture. "Idina Menzel in Uncut Gems, J.Lo pole-dancing to Fiona Apple, FKA Twigs talking about snakes, the title of the film Diane," they sang. But towards the end of their number, most of what they where mentioning were Laura Dern's scenes from Marriage Story.

"Laura Dern kicking her feet up on the couch, Laura Dern ordering a kale salad, Laura Dern dressed slutty in court." At this point, Laura Dern and the rest of the crowd was laughing and living for the performance. The choir continued, "Just all of Laura Dern." They then continue just singing the scene-stealing actress's name, when singer Alex Newell comes out to belt out "Laura Dern" in breathtaking notes.

This iconic moment, of course, didn't go unnoticed by the Internet.
