About Last Night... The Best of the Best of New York Fashion Week, Part 1

By Caroline Torem Craig

10 years X 2 per year = 22 Fashion Weeks 4 PAPER!

It’s exciting stuff covering backstage, front of house, runway and the parties. One needs to train, like for a marathon. The stamina needed to deal with four different kinds of "lists," to travel to and from the tents and off-site venues, to fight with hundreds of manic-panic foreign and domestic photographers and videographers for a 12-inch square of space for 20, 30, 40 different shows is incredible. Sometimes there are actual fights like the Italians vs. the Japanese or the New York Times vs. The New York Post. It can be both hilarious and/or upsetting. When the lights go down and the first model struts the catwalk, it is concentration time... OH!! To get the perfect shot! There can be a gasp of appreciation as a tiny perfect breast escapes from the fabric or a moan of sympathy as wobbly legs in 6" platforms lose control or a hush when the ighting, music, clothing and the model blend together to make a sweet magic moment, hopefully captured for TOMORROW! Some of my favorite photos this season show “recognition,” not just for me but for the magazine I represent -- PAPER. Everyone loves PAPER. They show it in their eyes, their smiles and they even say it out loud! Here are some of the best moments of Fashion Week that I captured.

More Fun at the Colette Luncheon and Pink Martini Concert!

By Kim Hastreiter

leyla ice cream and sarahWOW I'm exhausted today. Wednesday was a wild one. First we hosted a luncheon at Indochine celebrating the tenth birthday of our fave shop in Paris, Colette. Sarah Lerfel and her mom (and shop namesake) Colette hopped over to New York for the occasion and it was SUCH a fun crowd. It was a great mix of artists, DJs, designers (young cool ones mostly), socialites and hipsters who all respect Sarah's eye and vision and wanted to come celebrate her. We had a great table of friends of Sarah -- many of whom I also knew.

Brian Kaws (the artist, see his photo below) was across sitting next to Supreme's James Jebbia who just became a dad! To my left was Weiden and Kennedy guru John Jay, and to my right was fabulous designer Thomas Brown, who I introduced to my Portland friend Thomas Lauderdale, who was playing at Carnegie Hall that night with his group Pink Martini (that's a whole other story to come!). I think Brown should dress all the Pink Martini guys actually.

By Mickey Boardman

The cuties came out last night to celebrate New York's most popular fashion designer Cynthia Rowley. Her new book Slim: A Fantasy Memoir is just that -- fantasy, but entertaining fantasy featuring fun drawings by the designer. A parade of fun types rubbed elbows on the fifth floor at BG including Anne Slater and John Cahill, Vanessa Carlton, Waris, Arden Wohl, PAPER's Hunter Hill, Kim Vernon, Daniel Benedict, Patricia Velazquez, Ryan McGinness and Emma Snowdon-Jones.

Mr. Mickey's Favorites on the Scene: Jackie Astier

By Mickey Boardman

jackie astierMr. Mickey's friends James Fuentes and Waris were working on a downtown yearbook at one point and MM so loves the idea of a guide to the New York Scene that he's co-opting the idea and will be presenting you some of his favorite folks both old and new, uptown and downtown, gay and straight and so forth! And what better way to start than with a sexy blonde? This is the charming and delightful Jackie Astier. Jackie is the fashion director of Avenue Magazine and she knows how to have fun!!

Mr. Mickey first bonded with her on the Zac Posen/ Vakko trip to Istanbul and have had fun out on the town together ever since. Jackie is often with one of MM's all time favorites/longtime PAPER family member Peter Davis as they were the other night at the Saks party for Rachel Roy, the Versace store party for Save Venice and the Bergdorf's Proenza Schouler party.

The Cuties Come out for House of Waris

By Mickey Boardman

mr. mickey, nina clemente, Anthony Flores

A few nights ago all the cuties of downtown headed uptown to Bergdorf Goodman (and then the Indian Consulate) to celebrate the House of Waris, the super fabulous jewelry line but everyone's favorite multi-tasking sikh, Waris.

Here are some shots (from patrickmcmullan.com) of MM's cutest couples of the night. Of course we have Waris and longtime lady love Chiara Clemente. MM also drooled over writer Fran Liebowitz and Chiara's mother Alba Clemente. And finally a trio: MM (looking very bloated!) with another Clemente, Nina, and her boyfriend Anthony Flores.

Also seen on the scene: Willem Dafoe, Rachel Roy and Damon Dash, Arden Wohl, Melissa Bent, Melia Marden, Kate Schelter, Francesco Clemente, Fabiola Beracasa, Sarah Cristobal, Anne Christensen with baby Gloria in tow, Anne Slowey, Ben Cho, Jessica Joffe, Josh Lucas, Simon Hammerstein and more!
