Tommie Sunshine Lives For Two Things: “Daniela and Music”

MARCH 29

Well rested and ready to rock, I began my day with the power and fury needed to endure WMC. Three gigs strong, I knew this one was going to be the hard one. Before Daniela and I were even able to leave the hotel, my good friend Austin showed up to my hotel with 200 T-shirts with my name on them, the "e" in Tommie being the Etnies logo (where he works) and two pair of Barton Perreira sunglasses for me. This is how every day should start and I slipped on my new shades with a toothy grin. Off to gig one at the Club Monaco store on Collins where a crazy dance party broke out and if you watch Yo Gabba Gabba (which if you don't, you should) you see the striking resemblance to Nathaniel the one kid is rocking.

A Sleep-Deprived Tommie Sunshine's Fuzzy WMC Memories

MARCH 28

Sometimes we forget just how amazing and necessary sleep actually is. In my most un-rock-star moment of 2008 thus far I slept for 13 hours in South Beach during WMC. That makes me likely to be the most well rested man in all of Florida since the rest of the state that isn't here visiting is either making speed in their bathtub or feeding their actual speed addiction. This state scares the crap out of me and each time I come here I remember exactly why I feel this way. Last night/day was a long haul and with no sleep in between the details are fuzzy but I will do my best to recount them.

The Dubsided party was not packed by any means and showed exactly how unprepared WMC is for future forward music let alone the rest of America. Drop The Lime was the unexpected star of the show as our NYC homeboy made us all very proud and Jesse Rose made sure everyone in the room knew that he is in fact one of the finest DJs walking planet Earth. Spent some quality time hanging with Sinden who has a brilliant radio show on KISS FM in London and is one of the UK's rising stars. Annie Mac stopped me to take a photo of my T-shirt that simply stated "Why Blog When You Can Kill? and I was able to pass her my Young MC remix.

March 26th, 2008

It is my birthday today and I am in full celebratory swing, but not so disconnected that I can't start my first ever entry for my blog here on PAPERMAG. Year 12 of Winter Music Conference is just as crazy, just as hectic and just as malnourished as I ever remember it. Being just shy of three years sober makes it a very different terrain but an awesome one nonetheless. After a weekend at Ghostbar in Dallas and then Club Q in Zurich, Switzerland I had one day in the studio where my studio partner, Mark Verbos and I finished a remix of Young MC's "Bust A Move" and almost finished one for Yoko Ono's timely remake of "Give Peace A Chance" which will resume as soon as this madness is over with.
