Martin Scorsese's Val Lewton Documentary!
By Dennis Dermody
Whatever you do, don’t miss the excellent documentary on TCM premiering Monday, Jan. 14th: Martin Scorsese Presents Val Lewton: Man In The Shadows. The Russian-born Lewton produced a series of horror movies at RKO in the 1940s that were just unforgettable. Using talented directors like Jacques Tourneur, Mark Robson and others, he released a series of great chillers: Cat People (1942), I Walked With A Zombie (1943) The Leopard Man (1943), The Seventh Victim (1943), Ghost Ship (1943), The Curse Of The Cat People (1944), Isle Of The Dead (1945), The Body Snatcher (1945).

Attack of the Crab Monsters on TCM!
By Dennis Dermody
OnTCM on Dec. 7th at 2 a.m., they're screening a particular fave of mine -- the 1957 Roger-Corman-directed quickie Attack of the Crab Monsters. It's about a group of scientists sent to a Pacific island to investigate the disappearance of a research team who end up stumbling upon giant crabs that absorb people's minds! Also, on Dec. 21st, TCM is showing Night Must Fall, the 1964 psychological thriller starring Albert Finney as a sweet-talking killer who keeps a head in a hatbox.

Skidoo on Turner Classic Movies!
By Dennis Dermody
A friend alerted me to the rumor that Turner Classic Movies is going to air Otto Preminger's mondo-bizarro 1968 film Skidoo. It's a wild hippie-dippy counterculture movie with older stars like Jackie Gleason, George Raft, Cesar Romero, Burgess Meredith, Mickey Rooney, Carol Channing (in eye-popping Rudy Gernreich gowns) and Groucho Marx as "God." Watching this movie is mind-blowing -- here's a scene with Jackie Gleason in prison on LSD. Never released on video, this drug-addled insanity has a finale with the credits sung entirely by Harry Nilsson that will unhinge your jaw! Supposedly it will air on Jan. 5th on TCM. Cannot wait!
