Happy Birthday King Juan Carlos!

January 5th was the 70th birthday of one of MMBlog's favorite royals: King Juan Carlos of Spain. The official celebration is January 9th at the Palacio del Pardo, but Queen Sofia had JC blow out the candles on a cake on the actual date. Juan Carlos has had a very interesting life and has been a wonderful King. MM could go on and on but for now let's just focus on wishing the King Feliz Cumpleanos!

Sexy Right Wing Abuelo: Jose Maria Aznar

It's no secret that we here at the MMBlog are very left wing. We like to call ourselves Free Market Socialist Monarchists (how's that for a niche?). Still, we like to remind ourselves that right-wingers have penises too! Consequently, Mr. Mickey is pleased to present this beach shot of former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar. Aznar is the former head of the conservative People's Party and he was booted out of office in an election just after the tragic bombings of March 11, 2004 in Madrid. Nonetheless, Jose looks pretty sexy for a grandpa, don't you think?

Andrea & Tatiana in Ibiza!

Oh kids, everyone is going to Ibiza! Mr. Mickey was just there for the first time for the ultraglamorous launch of the new Penelope and Monica Cruz collection for Mango. Talk about a shindig. Look out for pictures which MM will be running in the Sept. issue (we'll try and get some up on the blog as well). It was Hola! magazine come to life. We're talking Pierre Casiraghi, the Cruz sisters, the Duke of Feria, the Duchess of Montoro, the Vicomtesse de Ribes and MM's new favorite model Teresa Baca!
Anyhoo, now Andrea Casiraghi and Tatiana Santo Domingo are in Ibiza! It's so gorgeous and you can imagine the weather. Is there any place more fabulous than Spain? Honestly!

Happy (Belated) Anniversary to the King and Queen of Spain!

Happy 45th Anniversary to Mr. Mickey's favorite reigning sovereigns Juan Carlos and Sofia of Spain. They were married in Athens on May 14th, 1962 at a ceremony attended by a deluge of royals! Those of you unfamiliar with royal history might like some background information. The Spanish Monarchy was in exile during the Franco era and Juan Carlos's father Juan, Count of Barcelona didn't get along so well with the Generalisimo. Sofia was the elder daughter of King Paul of the Hellenes (that's Greece to you pedestrians) and his wife the former Federica of Hannover.
Since JC was a Catholic and Sofia was Orthodox, some finagling was needed to let the marriage even happen. The couple's titles were Prince and Princess of Spain. Eventually Franco named Juan Carlos as his successor (skipping the Count of Barcelona in the succession). Sofia is universally considered the most popular Queen Spain has ever had.
