Ravi Krishnan: The George Clooney of Mumbai
By Mickey Boardman

Say hi to Ravi Krishnan the George Clooney of Bombay! No, he's not a movie star, he just looks like one. Ravi is a real estate developer who is a consultant to Lakme Fashion Week and happens to be married to one of the chicest fashion ladies in town Bandana Tewari. So OK, they're the fashion equivalent of Brad and Angelina, but you get the picture.

Cutest Expat Couple in Mumbai: Michael and Janikka
By Mickey Boardman

While making himself the toast of Bombay, MM was lucky enough to become friends with a charming and delightful expat couple Michael and Janikka. Check out how cute they are mugging for the camera outside the Courtyard, a super chic shopping destination. They've been in Bombay for five months and are loving it. Michael is a photographer who was shooting Lakme Fashion Week for Suzy Menkes at the International Herald Tribune.

It Was Glamour Galore at IMG's Party to Celebrate Lakme Fashion Week at the Taj Mahal Hotel
By Mickey Boardman

You kids know that Mr. Mickey gets around and he can't think of a party as glamorous at the IMG party at the historic and luxe Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai. Talk about drool-inducing!
If you don't believe me take a peek at the photo above. Designer Jade Jagger snuggled up to Parmeshwar Godrej (just voted one of the 50 most powerful women in India) and sexy Ravi Krishnan (the George Clooney of Bombay). Now that's a potent line up, people!

Bombay's Hippest Girl: Priya Kishore of Bombay Electric
By Mickey Boardman

MM has already written about the fabulous store Bombay Electric, the spot for the hippest Indian designers. Well here is a shot of BE's creative director Priya Kishore who is the hippest girl in town. MM is OBSESSED with this girl. She always had the best ensembles and just oozes cool! Too bad she's married and Mr. Mickey is gay because we'd make a cute couple!

Mumbai Shop of the Day: Kimaya
By Mickey Boardman

Mr. Mickey met the charming Pradeep Hirani, owner of the Kimaya boutiques in Mumbai, Delhi and Dubai and decided to take a peek at what's shaking at this high-end style emporium. Well you better like sparkle if you're heading to Kimaya! This place seems to specialize in wedding attire because Indian weddings last for a week and every woman is covered in glitter, sequins, jewels and silks! They do have Valentino Red, Valentino's diffusion line but otherwise it seems to be strictly over the top Indian.
Be careful not to take pictures. Poor Mr. Mickey took some research snaps and the salesgirls were NOT amused!!! So much for Mumbai hospitality. Still check out the store, just don't tell 'em MM sent you!

Queenie Dhody, Queen of Mumbai Hip Society, Knows How to Throw a Party!
By Mickey Boardman
Mr. Mickey has only been in Mumbai for a few days but already he knows that if you want to know what's happening in the glamour world, you grab the Bombay Times to read the column of former supermodel Queenie Dhody. Queenie is still hotter than most of the girls on the catwalk and sweet to boot. Last night she hosted a fabulous party at her home in the Worli neighborhood (no connection to the Laugh-In actress Joanne Worley) which seems to be the burrough of choice for many of Mumbai's high-end hipsters. The worlds of Bollywood and fashion mixed for a real New York style vibe that only comes when the hostess really knows the recipe for a great party -- a little of this, a little of that, some spice, some sweet.
Here is a shot that nearly made Mr. Mickey wet his jodphurs! A true high-powered fashion line up. From left to right: Our hostess Queenie (look at that body and she's a mother of two!), Marie Claire India's Harmeet Bhajaj, Vogue India editor-in-chief Priya Tanna and the International Herald Tribune's Suzy Menkes who was in India for the 18th time!

Sexiest Man Alive: Lalit Tehlan
By Mickey Boardman

Okay. Okay. Okay. Mr. Mickey knows that he is in Mumbai at Lakme Fashion Week to serve up hard-hitting journalistic reports of the action on the runways. After all, India is THE dynamic country of the future. China is old news! Russia who?
So MM should be busy busy busy reporting on hard issues. Well say hello to the hard issue Mr. Mickey is dying to get to the bottom of. His name is Lalit Tehlan and MM is telling you this kid is the HOTTEST thing to come out of India since Veggie Vindaloo! Lalit is a student, sometime model (surprise!) and boxer although Mr. Mickey hopes he doesn't get that angelic face all smashed in. MM met Lalit at one of the most glamorous parties ever hosted by Bombay goddess Queenie, a former supermodel turned social columnist. After the jump you can see more pictures of Mr. Mickey's new muse who honestly is destined to be a movie star despite not being interested in stardom at all! What's wrong with the kids today? Stay tuned for tons more coverage of Queenie's party!!!

Mumbai Fashion Week Power Couple: Mohan Murjani and International Herald Tribune's Suzy Menkes
By Mickey Boardman

Now this is what Mr. Mickey calls a high-powered glamour fashion couple. Mr. Mohan Murjani, a giant of the Indian (and global fashion business) and Miss Suzy Menkes, fashion critic of the International Herald Tribune. Mr. Murjani's gorgeous, smart and talented daughter Malini just got married in Udaipur. Suzy is here covering Lakme Fashion Week for the IHT and you can check out the great piece she already wrote at this link. Whew! Now that a real journalist has written a serious intelligent piece about Fashion Week, Mr. Mickey can relax and cover the hot boys, stylish girls and glamorous socialites that make Mumbai such a paradise!

Designer Narendra Kumar Says Give Peace a Pants... um, Chance!
By Mickey Boardman

Here is a look Mr. Mickey fell in love with yesterday at Mumbai's Lakme Fashion Week: Superstar designer Narendra Kumar with his pink shirt and peace sign pants! How great a message is that during this time of global conflict? Narendra showed his women's collection today -- MM hopes you like pink and lavender! -- and his men's show is Wednesday, closing day. Stay tuned for coverage of both, but in the meantime sink your teeth in Narendra's adorable ensemble -- designed by him of course!

Mumbai Shop of the Day: Bungalow Eight
By Mickey Boardman

Driving around Mumbai with tasty... um trusty driver Akbar, MM stumbled upon a sign for Bungalow Eight. Mr. Mickey knew that New York's queen of super glam nightlife Amy Sacco had opened a second outpost of her legendary boite in London's St. Martin's Lane Hotel, but Mumbai? MM was ready to call lawyers about copyright infringement. It turns out Mumbai's Bungalow Eight is the chicest and most interesting home design store. Mr. Mickey has let his shopaholism run rampant all over the globe and he has never seen a location like Bungalow Eight's. The 4000-square-foot emporium is nestled underneath the bleachers of Wankhede Stadium. Note the staggered ceiling in the photo. The owners intended it to feel like an avant-garde home with goodies found from flea markets around the world as well as new merchandise.
Take a peek after the jump for more store photos or visit the website at www.bungaloweight.com

Mmmmm... The Men of Mumbai: Cute Waiter at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel
By Mickey Boardman

Isn't life great? Yes there is war in Iraq, women and gays are oppressed around the globe and the dollar is so weak Mr. Mickey can't afford to stay in the top hotels when he flies to Europe, but still, there is beauty wherever we go. And this week we go to Mumbai. You all already know that MM is a vegetarian and India is veggie paradise. You also know that MM is very devoted to the men of the Indian subcontinent. Who'd have thought they'd go and build heaven just a 14 hour flight from JFK? Let's start our Guide to the Men of Mumbai with this cute waiter from the Taj Mahal Hotel. IMG, who put together Fashion Week here, (and in NYC, Berlin and on and on) had a super glamorous party in the ballroom the Taj Mahal and this kid was too sweet!!!

Lakme Fashion Week Highlight: Kiran Uttam Ghosh
By Mickey Boardman

One of Mr. Mickey's favorite runway shows thus far at Mumbai's Lakme Fashion Week has been the show of Kiran Uttam Ghosh. Kiran worked in the past with British designer Jasper Conran, which probably explains why her silhouettes were some of the most accessible to western fashion lovers like MM. Her draping was sophisticated and the color palette was chic. These clothes would be at home in New York Fashion Week.

Mumbai Shop of the Day: Bombay Electric
By Mickey Boardman

Mr. Mickey has been seeing all sorts of shows here at Mumbai's Lakme Fashion Week. Lakme, by the way, is the biggest cosmetics company in India and the main sponsor of Fashion Week here (more on that later!). Anyhoo, MM has also been shopping till he drops in the hot city, and so far the retail highlight has been a gem of boutique called Bombay Electric. It's owned by Deepak and Priya Kishore and that Priya is a knockout. MM is obsessed and will post some shots of her also. Bombay Electric features about 20 Indian designers as well as some international names (Chrome Hearts sunglasses anyone?). This is the place for the hipsters!

Short-Shorts-Clad Soldiers at the Gate of India
By Mickey Boardman

Greetings from Mumbai, fashion lovers! Things are underway at Lakme Fashion Week and it's already a swirl of gorgeous models, Bollywood movie stars and new takes on classic Indian silhouettes! The shows all take place at the chic National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) which saves on schlepping for all the Jimmy-Choo-wearing fashion ladies -- yes, there is a Jimmy Choo boutique just a samosa's throw from the NCPA, in the Oberoi Hotel along with a Gucci and Bottega Veneta. In fact, it seems the classic Bottega woven bag is the It-bag among the in-the-know fashion girls.
Still MM does not live by runway shows alone, so the breaks between shows are a perfect time to investigate Mumbai's super stylish boutiques and cultural sites. MM and his new friend Anu (a New-York-based, Mumbai-raised cutie) headed to Bombay Electric, the boutique known for carrying the hippest Indian designers. More on Bombay Electric later. While there, we popped over to the Gate of India, the Arc de Triomphe of Mumbai, just across from the chic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel (and the Fendi, Vuitton and Bulgari boutiques). Much to MM's delight, a retinue of short-shorts-clad soldiers were engaged in some sort of hijinks in front of the gate. Yes, it's 90 degrees Farenheit here in Mumbai and a soldier needs to keep his business cool! Is there any place with more delicious pageantry than India?
