Eight Items or Less: Feist on Sesame Street, Opening Ceremony at Santos' and a Burger on a Donut
By Alexis Swerdloff

1. Set your TiVos! Feist is set to guest-star on the (39th!) season premiere of Sesame Street on August 11th. In addition to the Canadian chanteuse, other notables such as Will Arnett, Jessica Alba, David Beckham, Heidi Klum, Neil Patrick Harris and Jack Black will be stopping by the Street. And according to a press release we received, "Sesame Street continues in its play on pop culture with all new parodies including: 30 Rocks, Pre-School Musical and Are You Smarter Than an Egg Layer."
2. Stop by Santos' Party House tonight and be sure to look extra cute -- the stylish trio behind Opening Ceremony (Humberto, Carol and Olivia) will be DJ-ing.
3. Apparently, former SNL-ster Chris Kattan got married over the weekend to model Sunshine Tutt near Yosemite Park. Check out the photo above from the wedding -- that's a cavalcade of comic cuties if we've ever seen one!
4. Spike Lee will be filming the July 19th performance of Passing Strange. According to theatermania, "distribution for the film, to be produced by Steven Klein -- one of the show's producers and an investment banker -- has yet to be secured, though all options, including cable television are being explored."
5. Currently rocking our world: this photo of a bacon burger on a donut!

Eight Items or Less: Kvetching on the Hotel Chelsea Blog, Making Progress on Guns N' Roses Album and Watching Cloverfield on the TV
By Gary Pini

1. When the Hotel Chelsea's management changed hands recently, the hotel's blog started complaining about the takeover and the transformation to a dreaded "boutique hotel." Now they're even going after the planned, but unrelated, Atlantic City Chelsea: "I know hipsters have a reputation as airheads, but are any of them so stupid that they are going to confuse that piece of crap with the Chelsea Hotel? Maybe we can just stomp some chewing gum into their carpet or rub a wad in poster boy Paul Sevigny's hair."
2. Listen to Feist and the Constantine's cover version of the Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton/Bee Gees hit "Islands in the Stream" here.
3. Mega-manager Irving Azoff (Eagles, Neil Diamond, Van Halen etc.) recently started working with Guns N' Roses and may have finally made some headway for the release of Chinese Democracy.
4. According to Business Week, popular music website Pitchfork grosses around $5 million a year in ad revenue.
5. The Fifth Annual Brooklyn Peace Fair takes place on Saturday, April 26. Running from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the corner of Flatbush and DeKalb, the free event features Abiodun (Last Poets), Dragons of Zynth, Stephanie Rooker and lots more.
6. The producer of Cloverfield tells the BBC that the film is better watched at home than in a theater. "The movie is like a videotape. It lives on your TV. In many ways it is supposed to be viewed on a monitor." So, can we have our money back?

Today's Music-Related Tidbits: Moby Spins, Feist Sells
By Gari Pini
Back in the day, one could find Moby DJ-ing in downtown clubs like the Big Haus and he always played a little reggae, a little punk and a little whatever. On October 11, the man will be back behind the turntables DJ-ing and hosting a new club night called "Degenerates" at the Hiro Ballroom. Also spinning: Stretch Armstrong. Meanwhile, around the corner on 17th Street, the other half of the building with porthole windows that isn't already a hotel (Maritime) is going to become one. Hampshire Hotels just bought 346 West 17th for $70 million. Unrelated but cool: Thanks to iPod and no thanks to radio, Feist's album The Reminder sold 28,000 copies last week and moves from #36 to #28 in the Billboard charts.

Feist and Co. on Letterman, Plus After-Party Fun!
By Emily Nerad
In case there's anyone out there in the interweb universe who has yet to view this video of Feist's performance on last night's Letterman, we IMPLORE you to click here. Backed by an all-star indie rock choir, including The New Pornographers' Carl Newman, Nicole Atkins, Grizzly Bear, and members of Broken Social Scene and The National, Feist belts out an amazingly sweet rendition of "1234."
While I wasn't lucky enough to see this spectacle live, I happened to stumble upon the very unofficial post-performance soiree at Piano's. Sadly, the lady of the hour was not in attendance, but the majority of the choir was, including Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste still in full on white-on-white (which by the way, I thought was a great look). Rock n' Roll Trivia for the evening was emceed by Takka Takka's Conrad Doucette, Nicole Atkins and The National's Bryan and Scott Devendorf. AC Newman dominated the trivia portion of the evening, and I was eventually forced to throw in the towel, scoring a measly 30 points on their ridiculously obscure questions.
Party favors were passed, and trivia evolved into a dance party while the venue set up for karaoke. As I passed out party favors -- matching headbands for all -- I secretly hoped we'd all stick around for an all-star karaoke jam, but no such luck. We disbanded with high fives and hugs.

The $15,000 Concert
By PAPERMAG Editors

Here's a report from your special correspondent Gary Pini....
While you're sitting on scalding concrete at the Siren Festival this summer or waiting in line to hear your favorite DJ at PS1, pause for a minute and close your eyes. Imagine what suffering the unfortunate music fan in the Hamptons is going through. No Ruff Club, no Panty Party, no Mr. Black and barely a live venue in sight. But Wait! The $15,000 per person concert series is coming to save the day . The line-up includes Prince, Billy Joel (at least he won't have drive far), Tom Petty, James Taylor and Dave Mathews. We are falling asleep just thinking about it. And to be sure that you get your money's worth, the promoters (Bulldog Entertainment) promise more perks than the artists' dressing rooms: valet parking, celebrity chefs and even Moroccan pillows. Yes, we make fun now, but in 2037 we'll be first in line for the $150,000 tickets to see the Battles, CSS, Klaxons, Feist and Bonde do Role.

Eight Items or Less: The New Scissor Sister, Less Oral Sex (or Should it Be Fewer?) and Virgin Airlines Takes out the Trash
By PAPERMAG Editors

Here's an Eight Items or Less from our special correspondent Gary Pini, who 944 magazine referred to as the "All knowing wise man of the wild world."
1. According to one of our readers "8 items or less" is grammatically incorrect. It should say: "or fewer.” That's right, but we aren't changing it. All those supermarkets can't be wrong.
2. This week's health tips: Drink more tea and have less oral sex. Apparently tea drinkers have a 20 to 30 percent lower risk of skin cancer and people who have more than five oral sex partners are 250 percent likely to have throat cancer.
3. A building so nice they're building it twice. Observant readers of skyscrapercity.com note the striking similarity ("rip-off") between a building proposed for downtown Miami by architect Chad Oppenheim and the already under construction headquarters of China Central Television by Rem Koolhaas.
4. Culture Check: customized Blackberry tag lines. Recently received emails that ended with: "Not sent via Blackberry because I don't have one" and "Sent via Blackberry because I have no life."
5. Not another one! If you thought Mika was just Scissor Sister 2.0 then here's number three: Calvin Harris. This one's from Scotland and is down with Kylie Minogue.
6. Virgin Airlines is collecting the garbage. Their new street-poster campaign here in New York City is a giant red bag stuck to construction site walls and they are filling up fast. Question: Who's going to empty them?
7. Canadian singer/songwriter (and former Peaches roommate) Leslie Feist has a hit album. After weeks of major buzz and Internet downloads, the singer 's new LP goes into the Billboard Top Albums chart at #16 (31,000 copies). While The Reminder has received almost universal critical acclaim, we were puzzled by yesterday's USA Today extreme slap-down that described the work as "elevator music for hipsters" and "radio resistant."
