Nina Ricci Heir Romano Ricci Is Smelling Like Roses
By Whitney Spaner
This week I’ve been assigned the horrible job of going to Paris to check out the changes being made to the legendary Printemps department store, but more on that later. My favorite part of the day was meeting Nina Ricci heir Romano Ricci, who decided to go from a career in race car driving to fragrances. He launched his brand Juliette Has a Gun last year and has been busy selling the two scents, Lady Vengeance and Miss Charming in 12 countries. Printemps is one of the only places you can find the fragrance along with one of our favorite Parisian boutiques Colette. It’s sold at Henri Bendel and Fred Segal in the US.
The very charming Ricci, has been said to be quite the man about town, and tends to hang out with his equally attrractive friend Erwin Creed, the heir to the famous French fragrance company Creed. On one website I saw them referred to as the Paris and Nicole of the fragrance world!
Here is a cute picture of Romano from yesterday afternoon. I loved his casual use of a tuxedo shirt!

A Vodka Disco Necklace!
By Kim Hastreiter

Check out the gift I just got... the new ABSOLUT disco bottle (filled with vodka!). I've been dying for this ever since I saw these mirrored disco ball style bottles being sold by Colette at our 24-hour department store in Los Angeles this past fall. THEY ARE SICK!! My favorite part about them is that they can be dangled from a big chain around your neck. At first I heard they were just available in Europe but someone in my office just saw them at a liquor store on west 14th Street, so if you see one grab it because it is a COLLECTORS ITEM and a supe-chic accessory.

Paris Metro Madness
By Kat Clements

The Metro in Paris is magical. Aside from being tiled and timely and varying in theme from station to station, it offers entertaining finds like neon-clad nymphs engaging in impromptu photo shoots.
A bunch of Canadian kids, who work under the collective "House of Dangerkat" and consist of dancers, designers, filmmakers and are a source of general inspiration for those of us who want to do it all, were in town to perform at the Colette party. Posing in the station like they were straight out of Paris Is Burning, these honeys know how to WORK it, and wear it too. So glad to encounter some underground vogue.

Our Amazing 24-Hour Store in LaLaLand
By Kim Hastreiter

It now feels like it was a dream. Did it really happen? It was such a mindbender, I swear. Here are some moments from our amazing, ridiculous, extraordinary marathon of a 24-hour store... from Jeremy Scott in a lawnchair to FUCT'S Erik Brunetti to Geoff McFetridge doodling on Colette's storefront! All thanks to my amazing friend Cobrasnake who really knows how to snap a camera... see the rest of his pix here.

LA LA from LA LA Land
By Kim Hastreiter

Here I am in L.A. and the PAPER Project is heating up. I haven't had a moment to breathe in the chilly grey air as I've been so swamped. I arrived Saturday night and drove straight from the airport to my good friend Karen Kimmel's studio where she was having an opening for a show of her work she put up. It was such a gorgeous show. She is a genius. I saw so many friends there -- from expat Audrey Bernstein to my favorite new friend Barbara Bestor (the architect who has done an amazing installation/design for our storefront space), to filmmaker Cheryl Dunn (who is in L.A. for our PAPER Project and the guitar shred-off we are doing Thursday night at the Roxy), to Karen's cute hubby James Bond, who owns the supersneakerstores Undefeated.
I was most excited to meet Geoff McFetridge, an artist I have always been a huge fan of. His studio was also in this kooky neighborhood that I'd never been to called Atwater behind Silverlake. Very cute locale. Like being in Mexico. I must say, I love L.A. There are all these different neighborhoods and the artists just keep pushing further and further out as things gentrify. I hear there's now a big scene in Long Beach and as far east as Highland Park and Eagle Rock are rocking out with cute little bars, restaurants and shops.

We Love Heartschallenger
By Kim Hastreiter
Our Cali friend Leyla is launching a fabulous new heart shaped vinyl Heartschallenger CD (see photo above). Leyla, for those who remember, is our great artist friend who drives that cute ice cream truck around Los Angeles and now New York City. Her music is awesome (she makes it with her boyfriend Ben) and her new vinyl is amazing, not to mention amazing-looking. It comes in Day-Glo and with lots of fun stickers. You can get it at Colette (I introduced Sarah from Colette to Leyla when she was last in town and they got along famously!)

Karl and Marc at Colette
By Kim Hastreiter

Check out these pix of Marc Jacobs and Karl Lagerfeld when they recently stopped into Colette in Paris. They were there to check out the fantabulous paintings of them as Simpsons characters (from Harpers Bazaar's August issue) that Colette was exhibiting. The paintings look awesome. Colette also invited a bunch of artists to customize Simpson characters. Check out their shop on line.

More Fun at the Colette Luncheon and Pink Martini Concert!
By Kim Hastreiter
WOW I'm exhausted today. Wednesday was a wild one. First we hosted a luncheon at Indochine celebrating the tenth birthday of our fave shop in Paris, Colette. Sarah Lerfel and her mom (and shop namesake) Colette hopped over to New York for the occasion and it was SUCH a fun crowd. It was a great mix of artists, DJs, designers (young cool ones mostly), socialites and hipsters who all respect Sarah's eye and vision and wanted to come celebrate her. We had a great table of friends of Sarah -- many of whom I also knew.
Brian Kaws (the artist, see his photo below) was across sitting next to Supreme's James Jebbia who just became a dad! To my left was Weiden and Kennedy guru John Jay, and to my right was fabulous designer Thomas Brown, who I introduced to my Portland friend Thomas Lauderdale, who was playing at Carnegie Hall that night with his group Pink Martini (that's a whole other story to come!). I think Brown should dress all the Pink Martini guys actually.

A Showbiz Week...
By Kim Hastreiter

Wow. what a busy week. The madness began on Sunday night at The Box, where we celebrated our coverboy Rufus Wainwright's new CD with a performance and party. It's all been feeling very cabaret lately -- The Box decor, Rufus crooning at the piano... PAPER girlfriend Sarah Flicker stopped by and just aesthetically fit into that joint. She was all jittery because her Citizens Band would be performing Tuesday (last night) at the Highline Ballroom. I guess Sarah was nervous because it was her first time on a trapeze since giving birth to her baby girl Arrow a couple of months ago.
Last night we went to see the band and they were fantastic. Hormones were raging with two pregger performers: Jorjee, who is ready to pop this week, and Karen Elson, who disguised her big belly well (she's due in August). Sarah was fantabulous and looked amazing. Actually, I was also blown away by Karen's voice. This girl has been practicing. I see a big musical future for her for sure. But the mindbender was definitely Angela McClusky, whose deep husky, soulful voice gave me goosebumps. The audience was fashioned out for sure. We sat next to Anna Sui, who told me she's leaving for Thailand this week and Paul Cavaco (creative director of Allure). Bruce Weber was at the next table as well and supposedly Italian Vogue was there shooting them. We went with our friend Sarah, who has the great shop Colette in Paris. Colette has turned ten years old so PAPER is giving a little luncheon today to celebrate. Sarah and her mum (Colette) are in town to celebrate with us.

Arnhem's Radical Fashion
By Kim Hastreiter
The real fashion buzz and energy this week was not, I'm sorry to say, at the CFDA Awards, where the usual suspects in American fashion gathered and applauded themselves in a heavily corporate-branded (Swarovski Awards, Geoffrey Beene Awards, you get the picture) partisan event that hailed the business of fashion rather than the creativity of fashion. No surprises. No inspiration. No fun. To me it was disappointing.
The real fashion inspiration-slash-shock took place this week thousands and thousands of miles away in Arnhem, Holland where the Arnhem Fashion Biennial program opened with a boom, bang and sizzle and independant forward thinking designers from all over the world gathered to show their stuff. No mention of business here. No corporate-sponsor-owned designer awards. Just plain amazing inspiration and pure fashion ideas.
Our friend Sarah, the proprietor of the best shop in Paris, Colette, sent me some fun photos she took at Arnhem over the weekend of some super cool vibes and inspiration for fashion's future. You can also read about more Arnhem escapades on Diane Pernet's Shaded View of Fashion.
More photos after the jump...

Happy Birthday Colette!
By Kim Hastreiter

Check out this amazing invitation that Colette sent out for their birthday party taking place March 20th in Paris. Looks like Swarovski sponsored the invitation which is an AMAZING crystal beaded hard drive in the shape of a bicycle lock. WOW - what a collectors item.
I wish i would be in Paris for this party but second best was receiving this invite. So cool. Check it out!!!
