By Gary Pini

beautiful loser

1. You read the book and went to the art exhibit, so now get ready for the movie. The documentary film Beautiful Losers is coming this summer to a theater near you. Aaron Rose, who co-curated the earlier versions of BL, is also behind the film. Among the featured artists: Harmony Korine, Mike Mills, Shepard Fairey, Chris Johanson etc. Watch the trailer here: www.beautifullosers.com

2. Somebody chopped off Ringo's head! Don't worry, it was just the hedge version. Italian sculptor Franco Covill created an Edward Scissorhands replica of the Fab Four outside the Liverpool transit station but a Ringo-hater decapitated the drummer. (Telegraph UK)

Eight Items or Less: "Pull Your Pants Up" in Dallas, Casey Spooner in Hamlet and Endangered Club in Williamsburg

By Gary Pini

pull your pants up

1. Just Say No. Like the Reagan era anti-drug campaign, the city of Dallas has launched a ridiculous advertising blitz to stop the low-pants craze. "This is not just a teenage problem. There are people sagging in their 30s," Deputy Mayor Dwaine Caraway tells NPR. The campaign includes billboards and a theme song: "Pull Your Pants Up."

2. Hamlet, The Wooster Group's "first encounter with Shakespeare," features FISCHERSPOONER member Casey Spooner in four roles and music written for the production by his partner Warren Fischer. It runs until December 1st at The Public Theater.

3. DJ Magazine announced the results of their annual Top 100 DJs competition this week. With over 300,000 people voting, Armin Van Buren beat out Tiesto for the number one spot. DJ #4, Paul Van Dyk is spinning tomorrow night at the Halloween Ball at Roseland, 239 West 52nd St. $40.

4. Next time just toss a TV. Courtney Love has been banned from posh London hotel Claridge's because she set fire to her $3,000 a night room during a previous stay.

5. Luiza from CSS and Bjorn from Peter, Bjorn and John are DJing tonight at Cheeky Bastard in the Hiro Ballroom of the Maritime Hotel, 317 West 16. While neither made the aforementioned Top 100, the event is free.

6. Author Michael Gross describes life across the street from CBGB many moons ago: "The block housed drug dealers offering everything from coke to Colombian weed (sold out of a full wooden barrel by the hairy hobbit who rented my building's basement) to Iranian opium." (via The New York Observer)

7/ Endangered club alert! Williamsburg's Triple Crown is under attack from just about everybody -- police, fire department, neighbors, etc. -- and they need your help. Stop by the venue at 108 Bedford Ave. this Sunday from 1-9 p.m. and sign a petition to let them live in peace. Of course there will be tons of DJs to entertain you: The Rub, Negroclash, Bangers, etc.
