Happy Birthday Capricorn!

By Ann Magnuson

I'd like to extend a very happy birthday to all my fellow Capricorns! Many famous driven people are Capricorns. Folks who make a point of making their mark in the world. As Kris Kristofferson reminded us, Jesus was a Capricorn. So was Elvis Presley, Marlene Dietrich, J.R. Tolkien, Joan of Arc, Muhammand Ali, Barry Goldwater, Rob Zombie, Ricky Martin, Edgar Allan Poe, John Denver, Shari Lewis (Lambchop too?), Susan Lucci, Mel Gibson, Howard Hughes, Mariliyn Manson, Val Kilmer, Richard Nixon, Herman Goering, Al Capone, Mao Tse Tung, Josef Stalin... uh, wait a minute. Sure we can be ambitious, sometimes ruthless but... most of us are softies deep down. At least those of us with our moon in Libra. Let's see. Capricorns....

The West Virginia Music Hall of Fame

By Ann Magnuson

Little Jimmy DickensI'm winging my way to my hometown of Charleston, West Virginia to emcee the first annual West Virginia Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony (this Friday, November 16th) and I'm thrilled to high Almost Heaven! The Governor will be there and so will Senator Robert C. Byrd (the only senator to speak out against Dubya's bid for absolute power back when everyone else was quaking in their boots.) Did you know Bill "Lean On Me" Withers was from West Virginia? I didn't until WVMHoF founder Michael Lipton told me. Withers is one of the living inductees along with Grand Ole Opry star Little Jimmy Dickens (pictured above), Pulitzer-Prize-winning classical composer George Crumb, singer Hazel Dickens (whose songs can be heard in the amazing Oscar-winning documentary Harlan County, U.S.A.) and songwriter Billy Edd Wheeler whose hits include Johnny and June Carter Cash's "Jackson."

DUELING HARPS! Hot Harp-on-Harp Action at the Steve Allen Theater this Saturday!

By Ann Magnuson

dueling harps

Former Citizen Band member and dashing New York performance fixture Adam Dugas and I musically battle it out in DUELING HARPS, a brand new show co-starring our devilishly angelic harp players Alexander Rannie and Mia Theodoratus. This ONE NIGHT ONLY event happens this Saturday night at 8 p.m. at The Steve Allen Theater! Adam and Mia are coming out from NYC for their Los Angeles DEBUT! So Alex and I will give them a traditional Hollywood welcome by immediately engaging them in an "Anything You Can Do We Can Do Better" West Coat/East Coast showdown!

It is going to be a psychedelically sophisticated evening of weird covers, beautiful melodies and a few Bongwater tunes. And plenty o' suprises! Set list includes tunes by Handel, The Smiths, Pink Floyd, Purcell, Lee Hazlewood, YoHaWha13, Buffy St. Marie, Debussy, Kraftwerk, T. Rex, Ravel, an anonymous Elizabethan poet and, of course, George Jones & Tammy Wynette!

ONE NIGHT ONLY! FUN FUN FUN in the ever-increasingly HIP HIP HIP Steve Allen Theater (where there is LOADS of free parking in their very own parking lot -- an L.A. dream come true!) The Steve Allen Theater is located at 4773 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90027. Order tickets through the website or call 1-800-595-4TIX!
