Peter Davis' Status Update: Chic Nerds at Schooled Book Signing
By Peter Davis

Anisha Lakhani, the stylish author of Schooled, had a book signing at the Alice + Olivia store in South Hampton, replete with boxes of Nerds (perfect for a book about academics), cupcakes and mini bottles of Nicolas Feuillatte champagne. Yummers. Amongst the guests: Andrew Frye, Bronson van Wyck, Georgina Schaeffer, Edward Barsamian, cute Chau Ngo, Douglas Marshall, Lisa Salzer, Martin Marks, Tia Walker and Lorraine Bracco. Could Bracco be sniffing around to turn Schooled into a movie? Stay tuned...

Leven Rambin's Fashion Week Diary: Part 2
By Leven Rambin

If you missed Leven's first installment, check it out here...
THURSDAY, FEB. 7th
Turns out my godforsaken cold got the best of me. I was sick with a fever and sore throat and out of commission on Monday, Tuesday and even part of Wednesday. I ended up missing (painfully!) Catherine Malandrino, Charlotte Ronson (I heard the show was spectacular and one of my crushes, Mark Ronson, was in attendance), Steffe (a favorite), Gustavo Arrango and Vivienne Tam, which was really disappointing. Thank God for Style.com and Mickey Boardman, who fills me in on everything.
Today I was feeling well enough to attend Rebecca Taylor at the tents, one of my all-time favorites! I pop into the Alice + Olivia presentation, which has been styled to look like a rock ānā roll slumber party. Models are strumming guitars and lounging around pizza boxes and vintage paperbacks and everyone is snacking on mini muffins and bagels. I bump into Julia Stiles who I share a long conversation with about the doormen in my building, as she used to reside here too. We agree they are hilarious. Also, I meet Nicky Hilton and we talk about my friend, her brother Barron Hilton, whom we both agree is adorable.

Fabian Basabe's Back in New York and Painting the Town Red
By Fabian Basabe

So I landed at JFK early from the red eye, went home for a power nap, had a late lunch at Cipriani's (the one in Grand Central Station) and headed over to the New York Yacht Club for Chris Benz's fashion presentation.
Now, as I have tried to convey in this blog, Fashion Week is a lot of fun, but then, amidst the multitude of events, you stumble into the one that is really very cool! The Yacht Club is, in my opinion, one of the best building in NYC, and Chris's presentation was in its best room... you know, the one with the miniature boats and the wooden walls and the mosaic glass mirrors on the ceiling? That one. Now, pack it up with slick socials, cool fashion people and gorgeous models, add a soundtrack straight from the 1920s, stud it with girls wearing Benz's colorful and elegant creations and top it off with Chris, the cherry on top, in a panama hat and a bow tie. It was fun and original and true to Chris' inspiration -- a modern take on a bygone era.

Fabian Basabe Interviews Alice+Olivia Designer Stacey Bendet
By Fabian Basabe

I don't wear dresses... I wear pants! And I don't wear girls pants, but if I did they would be Alice+Olivia!
Alice+Olivia designer Stacey Bendet is a dear friend of mine... and one of the first designers I ever modeled for -- granted I had to take my shirt off and get molested on the runway by two hot models at Jet East back in the day! She has come a long way and her stuff is everywhere and all the fun and sexy ones are wearing her pants. Thankfully, we know people who can fit in them! I thought I'd ask her a few questions... for those of you who have not had the pleasure, meet my friend Stacey. (Her show is next week and I will definitely be there!)

Shop of the Week: Owl's Lab
By Whitney Spaner

Bubbly boutique owner Ashley Thompson has given a new name and look to her Washington Square space formerly known as Addict. Splitting from her Addict partner, Megan Johnson, Thompson's newly named Owl's Lab still caters to high-fashion working girls (who, as Thompson describes, "go out for drinks") with labels like Vena Cava, Ilana Moses and Alice + Olivia. After one visit spent lounging on the plush chairs, petting Wally (the store's Lhasa apso), and chatting with Thompson and her crew while tapping your foot to the MTV-inspired soundtrack, you won't want to leave the nest. A black and white lightbox with the sketch of a girl kissing an owl is the centerpiece of the store, set with blond wood throughout. Shoppers can find trim, white LiDi pants or a tailored Chaiken suit in the back; trendsetters look to the middle area for items like a colorful abstract-patterned Thread dress with a sky-high hem or a
marigold and gray knee-length number courtesy of Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent. The front of the shop is casual chic with Velvet knit dresses, supersoft Garcon tees, alongside jeans by Citizens for Humanity, Tsubi, and Sass and Bide. Although some of the prices reach well beyond the several hundred dollar mark, Thompson says she's made a conscious effort to stock the store with items in the double digits, like Smashing Grandpa printed T-shirts and tanks, and Hobo International wallets in mod red-and-white patterned leather. If you want to splurge, save, rock out or relax, Owl's Lab has something to satisfy. 20 E. 12th St., (212) 633-2672 Whitney Spaner

Shop of the Week: Alice + Olivia
By Whitney Spaner

Although Fashion Week will no longer call Bryant Park home, fashionistas will still have a reason to visit, thanks to the new mod-style Alice + Olivia store, which boasts a view of the park. The expansive white space, decked out with sparkling black chandeliers and bright-yellow accents, is lined with the store's eponymous line of skirts, dresses, pants and shirts, rounded out with bags and belts by British designer Angel Jackson and shoes by Scoop. Five years ago, owner and designer Stacy Bendet, a Chappaqua native, made her first pair of pants when she realized she was bored with always having to wear jeans. Known for forming the best backsides, her pants caught on quickly. After teaming up with Theory's Andrew Rosen, Bendet first opened Alice + Olivia in East Hampton, then Los Angeles, and most recently in Manhattan this past fall. The clothes, which range in price from $84 to $440, are aimed at the younger, more relaxed women of the corporate world. The clothes walk a narrow line between flirty and sophisticated, with styles ranging from a brown, polka-dot, ruffle-lined dress perfect for a daytime event in the Hamptons (or even the stands of the Kentucky Derby) to a flashy goldenrod minidress that looks as if it was found on a banquette after a star-studded night at Studio 54. Also on the racks are more casual pairs of shorts, flowing knit tops and the store's signature wide-waist pants. There are a few misses -- like a bright-yellow T-shirt with puffy sheer cap sleeves -- but with a tower of Dylan's Candy Bar treats for sale, Alice + Olivia is bound to sweeten up any working girl's day. 80 W. 40th St., (212) 840-0887.
